This is a "rendr" demo video with 6 examples of turning gesture drawing playback into an expressive form of animation. It's a lovely antidote or compliment to complex, automated animation.
length: 5 minutes. 6 examples. My favorite is at 3:45 "Pound Dogs Escape" |

The stroke by stroke "rendr" has evolved into a sort of animation. This truly combines traditional gesture drawing and today's video capability. The first is prototype for a feature film. the second is a christmas ecard with "Artabet" characters. The third video is a tribute to "Mollie..." The fourth is a video to accompany Rich Illman's "Foxey Boppin....."
"rendr": 1 showing a work of art as it evolves in time, from it's first to last brushstroke. 2 the finished digital art form that results from showing the brushstroke evolution. 3 very 21st century.
One of the traditional definitions of the word "render" is "to cause to be or become."
"rendr" shows each stroke of a digital work of art as it evolves. The video progression that is created by this process becomes an art form in its own right.
It also can become a sensitive form of animation. The movements evolve as a part of the digital drawing process.
"rendr" juxtaposes traditional gestural drawing with digital technology with animation.
The short video, "Foxey Boppin’" shows this process as it is used to accompany Rich Illman’s song of the same name.
When edited in a rhythmic way, "rendr" is a great medium to use when creating music videos.
We hope you enjoy the small versions above, which plays much better when played on a full sized movie screen.
